Comparison of Hans Kung and his work Global Ethics with the Civil Religion

This Diploma Thesis deals with two universalistic conceptions, represented by the Swiss Catholic Theologist Hans Küng and his work Global Ethics, and the Civil Religion. In the first part of my text, I bring in the personality of Hans Küng, his work, ideas and the book Global Ethics which received great acclaim on international forum, Churches and society. Küng draws up three basic theses: No world peace without peace among religions. No peace among religions without dialogue between the religions. No dialogue between the religions without accurate knowledge of one another. These theses express the need for a dialogue, being able to formulate viable visions of the future. In the second part of my work, I introduce a less known notion of the Civil Religion with its transformations and development throughout the history. It is a concept exceeding the border of sociology, political science, philosophy and theology, examining the formative processes of the society and its religious reference speech. It penetrates the academic discourse especially in the period between the 1960s and 1980s, as represented e.g. by the American sociologist Robert Bellah. Komparační studie čtyř romských životních příběhů

The objective of this thesis is to do a comparative analysis of four Romany life-stories in prose from different parts of the world and identify features which may justly be called characteristic of Romany writing. The comparison of Victor Vishnevsky's Memories of a Gypsy, Mikey Walsh's Gypsy Boy and Gypsy Boy on the Run, Andrej Giňa's Paťiv. Ještě víme, co je úcta and Irena Eliášová's Naše osada yields valuable insights into how Romany writers construct their identity and to what extent their current work relates to the existing literary genres. Because of Romany studies' multidisciplinary nature, the extensive introduction lays the theoretical foundations for the analysis. I proceed from the characteristics of Romany studies in general in part 1.2 to the way it was practised during my undergraduate years in Prague as opposed to the Western tradition (part 1.3). Using a case study of the schism Romany studies are currently facing in the Czech Republic, in part 1.4 I attempt to illustrate the more general epistemological challenges the field has been grappling with between essentialist/primordialist and radical constructivist views. Doctoral dissertation: Panoptical tropes and negotiations between art and politics in Charles Johnson's short fiction Abstract The dissertation traces the uneasy marriage between ideology and aesthetics in African American literature, and its reflections in Charles Johnson's short fiction. The historical introduction is an attempt to reevaluate the tradition of ideological self-policing in African American literature. Its central thesis resides in the claim that African American literature and its critical reception has still retained some of this ideological template, in a manner and degree that throws it out of sync with the mainstream trajectory of American literature. This lingering anachronism cannot be legitimately attributed to a single causative circumstance, yet one of the more obvious explanations for this residual trend is the living memory of overt discriminatory practices in many parts of the United States, which is why the centrifugal literary discourses of assimilationism and protest fiction are still very vibrant. This simple argument alone provides a sufficient basis for contextualizing and understanding the thesis that ideological writing still inadvertently manages to find its way into African American fictional pursuits. Is the concept of human rights fictitious? Jürgen Habermas' postmetaphysical conception of human rights.

Human rights are the pervasive practical and political concept, discussed in various branches: political and legal philosophy, political science or jurisprudence. In the diploma thesis, this concept is discussed in the framework of political philosophy. An author's basic question: Is the concept of human rights plausible (rationally valid) in the postmetaphysical situation as well, and if so, which rights are possible to specify as "human"? This question is asked in view of contemporary (content, spatial and symbolical) expansion of human rights and solved in light of Jürgen Habermas' conception of human rights. Habermas' conception of human rights represents probably the most significant rational attempt to reformulate this concept in the postmetaphysical situation. His foundation is apparently free from the burden of all anthropological presuppositions, connected with a pristine articulation of the rights of man. As we know, these presuppositions also resound in the legal concept of human dignity. The Concept of the End of Art History and the Theory of Arthur C. Danto

The aim of this essay is to give a critical examination of Arthur C. Danto's art theory. In order to present a comprehensive exploration, the thesis deals with both Danto's philosophy of art and philosophy of the history of art. Within this discourse it aspires to evaluate Danto's end of art thesis and its appropriateness. In the first part, Danto's idea of the artworld, that is his contextual and historical theory of art, is examined. This includes the exploration of historical circumstances within which his art definition was developed, the notion of his essentialist and historic approach, and main features of his well-known technique of comparing indiscernible counterparts. The second part is devoted to Danto's philosophy of the history of art, especially to his Hegelian turn and what of such shift further stems. The third part explores the end of art thesis itself and, as its consequence, the posthistorical condition of art. The final part consists of two sections that attemp to critically evaluate both Danto's art definition and his end of art thesis. Finally, some arguments why Danto's theory about the end of art might be considered as inconclusive and speculative are conferred.

Student in his bachelor?s work will deal with one of the principal term of aesthetics ? a concept art. He will focus on Anglo-American analytic aesthetisc second half of the twentieth century, which took place in the history of aesthetic possibilities of the most comprehensive discussion of the definition of this term. An important part of this discussion is the institucionalism, whose essence, the various versions and his extensive critique student devotes the major part of his work.
